Washington, DC–Yesterday, Judge Andrew Hanen issued a decision against the DACA program. It is important to note that while the decision is cruel and disappointing, the status of current DACA recipients has not changed. Despite this decision, current DACA recipients can continue to renew their DACA.

Said Sirine Shebaya, Executive Director of the National Immigration Project:

“We are deeply disappointed to see yet another cruel attack on the DACA program. This move from Judge Hanen is a threat to the lives and livelihoods of thousands of DACA recipients across the country.

"While this ruling has no immediate effect on the program, this legal back and forth serves as yet one another reminder to Congress and the Biden administration that we need more than DACA. DACA recipients are our family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors - Congress can no longer sit idly by as they are left in continued limbo. The National Immigration Project stands in solidarity with the chorus of voices urging a permanent legislative solution for DACA recipients and all other immigrants at risk of deportation.”
