Washington, DC – Today, in response to Donald Trump being declared the 47th president of the United States, Sirine Shebaya, Executive Director of the National Immigration Project, issued the following statement:

“Today, we grieve with our immigrant family, friends, and neighbors across the country who are facing the reality that the hateful, anti-immigrant, and threatening policies we heard about throughout the campaign season will form the agenda for the next administration. We recognize that many are feeling terrified about what the next four years will bring. While we cannot stop all the harms from coming to pass, we say to everyone facing harm: we are here to do everything in our power to support and protect each other.

As a membership organization with staff and members positioned across the nation, the National Immigration Project is ready to fight back. We are gearing up to pursue aggressive litigation and community defense strategies to take down anti-immigrant policies. We will utilize every tool at our disposal to protect immigrants in their communities. To our partners and allies across the country, we extend our solidarity and support during this difficult time, and remind you all that we will remain steadfast in our commitment to fight alongside you for the rights and dignity of all immigrants.”
