Public Comment on Expansion of Asylum Border Bans

On November 4, 2024, the National Immigration Project submitted a comment calling on the Department of Homeland Security and the Executive Office for Immigration Review to rescind proposed rules which would expand asylum bans. The proposed changes would make the Circumvention of Lawful Pathways rule permanent, and lower the threshold for keeping the Securing the Border rule in place. Both expansions would have devastating consequences for asylum seekers.
