On June 23, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security issued a proposed rule which will nearly double the cost of naturalization applications and appeals. At the same time, the proposed rule would completely eliminate fee waivers and reduced fee applications, thereby creating a wealth test for lawful permanent residents to naturalize. The National Immigration Project comment strongly opposes the proposed rule.
