National Immigration Project Submits Comment Opposing Rule Which Guts the Asylum Office

On July 28, 2026, USCIS issued an interim final rule, immediately authorizing USCIS to refer affirmative asylum cases to immigration court without conducting an interview. The National Immigration Project submitted a comment strongly opposing the rule for gutting the asylum office and depriving asylum seekers, including children, of the right to a non-adversarial interview.
