NIPNLG v. ICE, DHS: Biometrics FOIA Suit
NIPNLG and Mijente filed a FOIA request on March 17, 2017, to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seeking information related to their use of mobile fingerprinting units, or biometric devices, in immigration raids and other immigration enforcement actions. This lawsuit was brought to compel the release of the requested information after ICE and DHS failed to produce responsive records.
The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by Jones Day on behalf of NIPNLG and Mijente.
