This lawsuit challenged the government’s practice of denying mothers and children detained in the Artesia Family Residential Center in Artesia, New Mexico a fair opportunity and process to apply for asylum and other relief from removal and its practice of deporting mothers and children to countries where they faced persecution and life-threatening danger. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by NIPNLG, the ACLU, the American Immigration Council, the National Immigration Law Center, Van Der Hout Brigagliano & Nightingale LLP, and Jenner & Block. The case concluded after the government closed the detention facility.
