Yost v. United States: Detention of a U.S. Citizen
This lawsuit was filed on behalf of a U.S. citizen imprisoned in immigration detention for nearly seven months even though she repeatedly informed immigration officers that she was a U.S. citizen. In 2013, she sued the United States for monetary damages under the Federal Tort Claims Act for negligence, false imprisonment, and emotional distress. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California by NIPNLG and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. The case settled following an early neutral evaluation conference.
