From the Board
NIPNLG extends its wishes for your health and safety during this difficult time.
COVID-19 has hit immigrants extraordinarily hard, accelerating injustice for all who lack power or voice, especially immigrants locked in detention.
While we each confront new challenges, we also feel an urgency to continue the fight for freedom and justice.
Thank you for showing up at this challenging moment.
Thanks to YOU, within weeks of the crisis, the National Immigration Project filed eight different lawsuits to get vulnerable immigrants out of unsafe jails and defend their right to legal counsel; published some of the first advisories for attorneys and advocates, providing critical legal tools to protect immigrants; and led two nationwide sign-on letters to key federal decision-makers to put an end to policies that victimize migrants. YOU are a part of the hope.
The fight to resist ICE and ensure immigrant safety now needs YOUR financial support.
You can make all the difference in helping a mother be home with her children tonight, or a medically vulnerable person reunite with their community. Even during the crisis, you are helping to change the narrative about our country's immigrants.DONATE NOW
In the last few weeks YOU have helped to:
- Sue ICE multiple times to release migrant detainees most at risk of COVID-19,
- Litigate to suspend unjust policies in the immigration court and detention systems,
- Publish advisories for attorneys and advocates on how to fight for the rights of detained immigrants based on COVID-19 and more,
- Lead a powerful sign-on letter to Homeland Security condemning new asylum processes at the border, and
- Plan a day-long training on May 15th, including navigating COVID-19 in the courts, in federal litigation, and in advocacy for immigrant clients.
To propel its defense of immigrants like our client, Ms. Dada, who remains detained in Louisiana, NIPNLG announces:
The Campaign to Resist ICE and Secure Immigrant Safety (CRISIS)
During COVID-19 and Beyond
The CRISIS initiative will help to free vulnerable immigrants detained in unsafe jails, and provide assistance and support for all immigrants in crisis.
NIPNLG has been in the trenches for nearly 50 years pushing creative strategies to protect, defend, and uphold the rights of all immigrants, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, national origin, immigration status, or contact with the criminal legal system.
As immigrants fight for their rights — and their lives — YOU are a critical part of the struggle.
Every single gift to the CRISIS campaign helps, no matter the size.
