Q&A About the Proposed Settlement Agreement in J.O.P. v. DHS
Monday, September 30, 2024 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Eastern/9:00 am - 10:00 am Pacific
Zoom Meeting
Duration: 1 hour Cost: Free CLE Credit: None
Program Description:
The right to apply for asylum pursuant to the TVPRA's “initial jurisdiction” provision is a valuable right for those who entered the United States without a parent before the age of 18, and it is not always obvious to practitioners that a client is entitled to USCIS’s initial jurisdiction, and/or that a client is a member, or could become a member, of the J.O.P. v. DHS class. During this free webinar, members of the class counsel team will discuss the proposed J.O.P. settlement agreement and answer questions about what steps practitioners can take to protect the asylum rights of clients with prior unaccompanied child determinations. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for November 25, 2024, so now is the time to learn who can benefit from the proposed settlement and what the deadline will be for becoming a class member.
Registrants can submit advance questions for the 9/30 webinar by emailing DG-JOPClassCounsel@goodwinlaw.com with subject line “9/30/2024 Webinar Question.” Panelists will address participant questions during the webinar as time permits.
